IBO Program--Kinston High School

The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.  email Ron Owens at Kinston High School   or  Click here for more information on the IBO program.

Technology Lenoir County Cyber Campus

Kinston High, South Lenoir and North Lenoir high schools house a cybercampus. Cybercampuses provide classes that are full-motion audio and video communication in partnership with the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. These facilities enable schools to teach or enroll students in courses that would otherwise be unavailable for that site. Lenoir County Schools provides both advanced placement (AP) and honors courses to the students  Click here for more information

Facility Improvements
A bond referendum passed on May, 2006 will fund $69.7 million towards school facility improvements and new construction.

School officials agreed on March 5, 2007 to purchase a 56-acre site, off N.C. 11 at Tilghman Mill and Ferrell Roads.  This land will be the new site for the combined Contentnea-Savannah Middle School Campus.

This is the second of three land acquisition projects in the first phase of school construction.  In December, 2006 the school board purchased a 45.50 acre property just north of Pink hill adjacent to N.C. 11 (2666 H.C. Turner Road) for a new Pink Hill Elementary.

Workforce Traning

Lenoir Community College

Continuing Education: 1.Providing education, training, & retraining for the workforce! 2.Maintaining effective and cooperative partnerships with business, industry, and various commumity agencies. 3.Utilizing systematic assessment for planning and evaluation.

The New and Expanding Industry Program Administrated by the North Carolina Community College System is the idea of creating more and better paying jobs by promoting the expansion of existing industries and by attracting new industries to the state.  This was a major consideration in the original establishment of the industrial education centers. The N.C. Community College System, working with the Lenoir Community College, will develop and fund legitimate training programs, tailor-made for each industry, to meet the immediate trained manpower needs when the plant, new or expanded, is ready to go into production.

Lenoir Community College also offers special customized training classes for business and industry. Funded through a grant, the Focused Industrial Training program enables the college to offer small enrollment classes targeting very specific skills critical to a particular organization. Programs are directed toward workers who need to renew their skills and technical knowledge.

Workforce development is all about helping grow your business and improve your operation. Customized Training classes ensure that you are getting what your business needs most. Highly qualified trainers and cutting-edge technology keep you and your employees current and competitive.  For more information on these programs, please contac  Bobby Merritt, Director of Industrial Training, Lenoir Community College.
